iOS 7 Adoption Already As High As 35 In One Day Apple And Developers Reap The Rewards
Apple’s big iOS 7 update rolled out to devices yesterday, around 1 p.m. ET, and while many users encountered a lot of frustrating server errors trying to get it, the numbers show that a lot of people were successful in updating. Like, a whole lot.
We’ve gathered results from a number of mobile publishing firms to find out what the numbers look like after 24 hours, and the trends indicate a very rapid rate of adoption. Chitika says that iOS 7 generated just over 18 percent of traffic from North American users on their platform over the past 24 hours, which beats out the iOS 6 first day update stats. Their study covers around 300 million page views from devices in the U.S. and Canada, and revealed that a day in, there were more users on iOS 7 than there were one day into the iOS 6 launch by about three percentage points.
Mobile web and app analytics provider Mixpanel has been watching the iOS 7 uptake in real time, and has found that within the first 24 hours, devices running iOS 7 hitting its network reached 35 percent. The firm also found that many people updated during the workday (with 22 percent on iOS in the 10 hours following its launch), and that many more were updating late into the night Pacific time, with another 10 percent coming on between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. PT. Predicting adoption based on the current rate, Mixpanel says iOS 7 could exceed iOS 6 activity on its network by this time tomorrow. Android, by comparison, still sees Jelly Bean (all versions) accounting for only 57 percent of traffic on the Mixpanel network, a full 450 days after the first version’s launch.
Mixpanel’s data is coming from nearly 2 billion impression records, distributed equally among all of its clients so as not to skew the data by relying too heavily on, say, an iPhone or Apple-focused blog’s mobile website or app.
Mobile and tablet website optimization company Onswipe has also been watching the numbers on its platform, and their sample size of around 1 million unique iOS devices reveals that around 31.27 percent of users are already on iOS 7. iPhone adoption is slightly ahead with 34.04 percent of total traffic coming from iOS 7, while on iPads visitors with the latest OS represent 26.12 percent of the pie. Both are up from last year and iOS 6, when 14.18 percent of iPads and 27.04 percent of iPhones had updated to iOS 6 24 hours in, making for a total of 24.77 percent of users across all devices.
“iOS 7 is getting such rapid adoption because it’s like getting a brand new phone instantly and for free,” Onswipe CEO Jason Baptiste told me via email. “Its adoption is also being accelerated by developers pushing a brand new iOS 7 redesign to their large user bases.”
This adoption is definitely unmatched by any other platform and its updates, mobile or otherwise. Apple has a key advantage here not only because it issues updates over-the-air, meaning users can get them wherever they’re connected to a Wi-Fi network instead of having to tether to their computers, but also because of Apple’s unprecedented and unmatched relationship with its carrier partners.
There’s a side benefit for developers who jump on early, too: Users new to iOS 7 are hungry for software that complements it, and those app makers who’ve made the switch to iOS 7-specific designs are seeing big download boosts thanks to both consumer interest and promotional efforts from Apple. The iPhone-maker has been highlighting iOS 7-ready apps and updates in its iPad and iPhone App Store ever since the update went live, and some of those apps, like OminiFocus2 and NBC, have seen their chart positions rise as a result.
In short, Apple’s adoption rates aren’t suffering because of the big changes in iOS 7, as some had suspected, and in fact the shift seems to be drawing in a more eager crowd with a very healthy appetite for apps. We’re just a day into this, however, which means that so far the numbers could reflect an outsized portion of early adopters anyway. We’ll be watching these numbers to see if they continue to mirror or exceed previous adoption trajectories for new iOS updates, or if there’s any indication the wider public is more update-shy.

Apple airs new holiday ad Misunderstood featuring iPhone 5s and more

We wont spoil the emotional twist of the ad, but the title -- combined with early scenes of a teenage boy who seems to be distancing himself from the celebrations around him by burying his nose in his iPhone -- may give you a hint where this is going.

Apple Working to Add More Diversity to Emoji Character Set

"Tim forwarded your email to me. We agree with you. Our emoji characters are based on the Unicode standard, which is necessary for them to be displayed properly across many platforms. There needs to be more diversity in the emoji character set, and we have been working closely with the Unicode Consortium in an effort to update the standard."Emoji inception was at Japanese phone carriers with very few of those characters, without -Caucasian icons, contrary to the existing now, the set has largely featured Caucasian characters, which Apple aims to change.

iPhone 6 Announcement Sees Japanese Apple Fans Already Queueing Up

It may still be several days before they can even order a new iPhone and more than a week until they can pick it up, but dedicated fans in Japan have already begun queueing.
In a country known for taking its hobbies extremely seriously, Apple acolytes in Tokyo began bagging their spots on the pavement days before the world knew what the California tech giant had up its sleeve.
Tetsuya Tamura, 45, and his 20-year-old son set up camp outside the companys flagship store in glitzy Ginza on Saturday, and had to wait until the small hours of Wednesday to hear about the Apple Watch and the two new iPhone models.
"The unveiling of the Apple Watch here was very tense. Everyone said, Yeah, they did it!," said Tamura, an office worker who has taken time off work to queue.
(Also see: Everything You Need to Know About the Apple Watch)
He proudly told AFP he works weekends to build up credit, and spends it every year on his Apple vigil.
Around a dozen pop-up seats were lined up on the pavement outside the store, surrounded by camping equipment, suitcases and even a rubber Steve Jobs mask.
Kajigaya Takuya, a 30 year old comedian, arrived Tuesday to join the line.
He said despite difficulties sleeping through a chilly Tokyo night, he had been having fun so far.
"The staff at the Apple Store are kind, they let us charge our iPads and iPhones, and we can use the toilet in the shop," he said.
Takuya said he enjoys the challenge of waiting outside to be among the first to touch the device, which is also available in gold.
"Of course, you need patience, its like climbing a mountain in the end you feel as if youve achieved something, I think its great," he said.
In China, which is not going to get the iPhone 6 until a week later, Internet users stayed up late to watch the live feed of the unveiling, with many joking about selling internal organs to fund a purchase.
"Good morning everyone. I have two kidneys. One is for urgent sale next week for theiPhone 6 Plus. The other is to be sold in four months time for the Apple Watch. First come, first served," quipped one.
In 2012, a Chinese teenager had his kidney removed to fund the purchase of an iPhoneand an iPad. That led to the arrest of members of an illegal organ trading group.
Despite the furore over the launch, there was some doubt as to the real significance of the news to the technology sector, with many pointing out that there was nothing very cutting edge about the new products.
Japanese Twitter users questioned the originality of the phones contactless cash feature, Apple Pay, pointing out that mobiles in Japan have had this feature for years.
And Twitter user @sinomoritsukasa couldnt see what all the fuss was about, having made his own Apple Watch, carved from an actual apple.

Apple iPad mini 3 is this the smallest upgrade we’ve ever seen
Apple’s iPad, iMac and OS X Yosemite event is now all done and as we reflect on it there were many highs, plenty of innovation even, but one particularly low point – the new iPad mini 3.
.jpg)
.jpg)
Apple gave the new iPad Air 2 a heap of time on stage because of its new 8MP iSight camera, its over the top 6.1mm frame, its new A8X chipset, its TouchID home button and its gold option. And the iPad mini 3 got a couple of quick slides – as if the company didn’t want to talk about it. And after digging a bit deeper into its specs sheet we think we know why – that’s by far the smallest step forward a device has needed a year to take. No A8X chipset, no new display or camera, no new thinner body but hey, you get TouchID (which is yet to prove it’s worth anything on a tablet) and cool golden version now.
The Apple iPad mini 2 made a lot of sense when it first came out. It replaced an iPad mini that was nothing more than a rushed, old iPad 2 fit into a smaller body. The mini 2 ushered-in the Retina display and shared the all-important 64-bit A7 chipset with the iPad Air. The same chipset it now shares with the iPad mini 3, its successor, only it doesn’t look nearly as impressive in 2014. It begs the question, what has the iPad mini team been doing this past year?
The news isn’t all bad – if you want a very good iPad mini with Retina display and decent chipset the iPad mini 2 has gotten $100 cheaper.
What Apple is doing is taking away the option to have a great compact iPad tablet with properly powerful internals and top-notch screen. If you want the spanking new iSight camera or latest mobile chipset by Apple in your hands you have the single option of iPad Air 2.
Last year’s iPad lineup was a happy dynamic duo that shared all its key selling points. This year saw Apple enabling the iPad Air 2 to bully the iPad mini 3 and keep the goods for itself. Even the iPhone 6 Plus will rightfully look down on its larger but obviously less gifted stablemate.
The latest iPad mini saw the company voluntarily give up on the compact tablet battle, by serving us a half-baked excuse of an upgrade. In a market which evolves every day and week, serving a quickly repainted last-year’s device is no way to maintain your lead.

Apple iWatch Your Companion to Automate the Home Appliances
The soon to be launched Apple iWatch wouldnt be just a normal smartwatch, but its also going to be a device that can control all your home appliances.
Last month the electronic giant Samsung launched its Galaxy Gear smartwatch with lots of incredible features, now its Apple coming-up with iWatch showcasing more advanced features than any other smartwatch currently in the market.
According to Brian White, an analyst from Cantor Fitzgerald, "iWatch isnt just going to be wearable smartwatch with limited features possessed by a smartphone, but itll also allow the users to automate their home appliances with an ease-of-touch". He also stated that "the upcoming iWatch would be an extension for the iPhone and would be competent to control home appliances such as air-conditioners, heaters, music systems etc".
As per some analysts, the iWatch wouldnt be "relentlessly inefficient", rather it could be really smart and helpful by proving more than a simple extension of a smartphone. Today a wearable smartwatch resembles a luxury accessory and a perfect companion accomodating a stress free life.

iWatch will also possess features and apps that will help in monitoring your health, such as heart rate monitor, pedometer and other biometric features. iWatch is expected to launch during mid 2014 and would be priced somewhere around $150 or $ 225.

Apple Watch First Impressions

As computerized wristwatches go, the upcoming Apple Watch looks impressive.
I like that it will come in two sizes, so the watch wont feel giant on smaller hands, as some competing watches do.
I also like that Apple will offer a variety of straps and materials, so fitness buffs can get a strap thats stronger and sweat-proof, while those seeking a fashion accessory can opt for an 18-karat gold edition.
Beyond looks, its great that the Apple Watch isnt simply adopting the smartphone way of doing things. The operating system, Watch OS, was designed specifically for the watch, and its interface relies heavily on the dial to the right, known as the digital crown. Competing watches tend to emphasize the voice and touch controls found on phones.
(Also see: Apple Watch Unveiled as Comprehensive Health and Fitness Companion)
Of course, its premature to conclude that you need an Apple Watch. I had only about 45 minutes with the Apple Watch and other new products announced Tuesday. The watch I was allowed to try on was running in a demonstration mode. Itll take more time with the watch - beyond a controlled environment - to make a solid conclusion.
What Im seeing so far, however, points to another winner for Apple.
The home screen has all your apps, arranged in rows like a honeycomb. You use the dial to zoom in and choose one. The touch screen lets you slide the honeycomb around to see different portions of your app collection. I find this easier than swiping on a small screen to scroll through pages and pages of apps. With the Apple Watch, you can even rearrange apps so that your favorite ones are toward the middle.
App developers will be able to decide what types of notifications appear on the watch and let you take actions such as replying to messages. Thats an improvement over existing smartwatches, which largely replicate the notifications sent to your phone. To be compelling, the watch shouldnt duplicate your phone. It should enhance it. Apple seems to get it.
As for using the dial to zoom in and out, Apple says that improves usability because youre not blocking maps and other content on the screen the way pinching in and out would. That makes sense, though Ill need more time with the watch to assess how well the dial works on its own. With your home screen, for instance, you still need the slide apps around.
(Also see: Everything You Need to Know About the Apple Watch)
Another question mark is what kinds of apps will be available for it.
Apple announced a few useful ones, including the ability to unlock your Starwood hotel room with a tap of your watch. Thats easier than pulling out your room key from your wallet. BMW also promises one to help you find your parked car in a crowded lot. If it works, that beats walking around in circles.
Apple does have a good track record in getting software developers to make good apps for its systems. Many apps come to iPhones and iPads first, and some have bonus features unavailable on Android. If that trend continues with the Apple Watch, I have no doubt customers will find more useful things to do with it than the smartwatches already out.
Apple Watch will require an iPhone 5 or later and will have a starting price tag of $349, higher than rival watches. Expect to pay even more for the 18-karat gold edition and other premium models. Youll also have to wait until early next year, as Apple wont have Apple Watch available in time for the holidays.
(Also see: iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Watch Price Revealed; 128GB iPhone Now a Reality)
As for products and services that will be available sooner.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
Apples new 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus are both larger than the current 4-inch models. They neutralize a key advantage Android phones have had: size.
(Also see: Apple Launches iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus)
And Apple managed to make its new phones thinner, with edges that are curved and fit nicely in the hands. Gone is the glass back, reducing the chances of breakage. The back will now be made of aluminum and feel more like an iPad.
To improve one-handed use, both new models will have a feature called reachability. With two light taps of the home screen button, the icons, controls and content on the top half of the screen snap to the bottom, so you can reach them with the same hand. Once you make your selection, everything snaps back to the top.
The iPhone 6 Plus also has new horizontal layouts to take advantage of the larger size.
Of course, apps have long worked either horizontally and vertically. On the Plus, horizontal viewing extends to the home screen, and apps will be able to arrange content in two columns.
When texting, for instance, contacts appear on the left and messages appear on the right. On smaller phones, including the regular iPhone 6, you get one or the other, not both side by side.
Its a small touch, but it shows that larger doesnt necessarily mean making everything bigger. Windows phones also make use of larger screens by squeezing in more content, but with Android phones, text and images just get blown up.
Mobile payments
Few people use their phones to pay for goods and services at retail stores. Thats because its not difficult to pull out a plastic credit card, however insecure that technology might be. Apple is trying to change that with Apple Pay, which will come to the new iPhones in October and the upcoming Apple Watch when its out.
(Also see: Apple Unveils Apple Pay Mobile Wallet and Payment System)
Apple improves over existing systems in a few ways:
Apple already has your credit card information from iTunes, so setting Apple Pay up with your first credit card is easy. To add additional cards, you can either enter the details or snap a photo.
In my brief tests, the phone grabbed my credit card numbers correctly, though I sometimes had to enter my name and expiration date myself because of poor lighting conditions. But grabbing those numbers is a good start, as Im prone to make typos with 16-digit numbers otherwise.
Apple uses the phones fingerprint identification system to authorize purchases. Other wallet apps require passcodes, which can make mobile payments take longer than simply pulling out your credit card.
Apple stores card information on a secure chip on your device, not on its servers. And its not even your real card number. Rather, Apple verifies your card information with your bank and then stores an alternative card number.
That way, if a merchants system gets hacked, only the alternative number is compromised, and that number would require one-time security codes available only with the physical possession of your phone.
The system works with credit cards issued by a variety of banks, including all three of mine. A payment system called Softcard, formerly known as ISIS, doesnt support any of my three banks. Amazons Fire phone has a wallet app, too, but it doesnt even do credit cards, which is surprising for a retailer. It works only with gift cards.
Apple Pays usefulness will be limited until more merchants install the necessarily equipment, but many chains already do and more are coming.

Apple Mac Mini 2014 Release Date-There are just two approaches to get a PC running OS X, however without a for all time connected showcase. One is Macintoshs most-lavish PC, the $2,999-and-up Macintosh Ace, the other is its minimum costly, the $499 Macintosh Smaller than normal. Other than those two bookends, Macintoshes are all either MacBook laptops with clamshell plans, or holding nothing back one iMacs, with extensive screens on turning arms.

To get access to the gimmicks of OS X for same cost as a standard iPad, youll have to bring your own presentation, console and mouse or trackpad. In the event that you as of now have some or those, awesome; if not, the aggregate expense can include rapidly, particularly on the off chance that you stick to Apple-marked frill.
There are numerous Windows PCs that cost around the same, yet almost all are plan minded, low-control plastic boxes that need anything near to a premium vibe. The section level Macintosh Smaller than usual, while not particularly effective, has an unibody aluminum outline and works about and a MacBook Air smart phone (the parts are very much alike), which is one of our most loved PCs.
However, underneath the matte aluminum suspension, there are a couple of ranges where the current emphasis of the Macintosh Small scale may not work for you. The processor in the $499 model (£399 in the UK and AU$619 in Australia) is a double center, low-voltage fourth-era Intel Center i5. Two more-lavish base setups incorporate speedier Center i5 CPUs, with a double Center i7 as an additional expense extra top of that. Anyway in the event that you backtrack to the last real Macintosh Scaled down redesign from 2012, youll discover quad Center i7 chips, an all the more compelling alternative now absent.
The late 2014 apple mac mini ssd upgrade includes double Thunderbolt ports and quicker 802.11ac Wi-Fi (as found on whatever is left of the current Macintosh line), yet the RAM, which was already client available, is currently for all time patched to the motherboard. As such: no more post-buy updates. Rather, you have to plan your redesigns at the time of procurement. Whats more theyre not shoddy: a basic hop from the base 4GB to 8GB is an additional $100, and including a 1TB Combination drive (with both SSD and HDD equipment) costs $250 over the slower 5400rpm 500GB hard commute at all extravagant setup.
After a couple of neglected years, enthusiasm for little desktop PCs is increase, and the Macintosh Smaller than expected confronts some intriguing rivalry from Windows gadgets, for example, the Alienware Alpha and the HP Structure Scaled down, which can both be figured to cost around the same, albeit each has its own particular exchange offs. Furthermore that doesnt even incorporate more reasonable plan choices like Chromebooks, "Chromebox" small desktops and even undeniable Windows laptops like the HP Stream 11, all of which can be had for about $200.
Apple aficionados trusting for a drastically overhauled, future-sealed Macintosh Scaled down will be frustrated that the little steps forward in a few ranges are counterbalanced by what may be seen as regressively moves in others (particularly for DIY upgraders). Yet for easygoing buyers searching for a fundamental desktop or a television associated media PC, its tricky to envision a more far reaching, independent PC, particularly one running OS X, at the cost.
Outline and peculiarities
The Macintosh Small, even with no physical upgrade in this most recent rendition, still feels little for a desktop PC. Be that as it may its heavy square of aluminum, 7.7 inches square and 2.6 pounds, and smaller people the media streaming gadgets, from Roku to Amazon Fire television (or the Apple television besides), that have assumed control a significant part of the media streaming individuals used to need a home theater PC for.
Contrasted with other little desktops, the Smaller than normal sits in the middle of the marginally bigger Alienware Alpha desktop, which incorporates its own discrete representation chip, and the new HP Structure Small, first seen at 2015 E-News Program. Anyway, the Macintosh Smaller than usual, at 1.4 inches tall, is slimmer than both of those.
While those other two little structure component PCs have several simple to get to USB ports on the front board, Apples outline is, valid to-structure, extremely moderate, with just a force light and IR sensor on the front board. Youll need to go around to the back to attach anything.
Transportation without a console and mouse implies that youll need to supply your own. Apples variants are $69 each for the console and your decision of mouse or trackpad (I lean toward the recent), yet any old USB or Bluetooth ones you have lounging around will work fine. I wound up utilizing the Macintosh Small scale fundamentally with a remote Apple console and a remote Microsoft marked mouse. Remember that additional expense when contrasting this with the new HP Structure Smaller than normal, which incorporates a remote console/mouse combo in the crate, even in the least end $319 variant.
Not with standing the absence of stuffed in extras, you do get a considerable measure of programming additional items. The slightest costly Macintosh PC still incorporates all the packaged programming found on its pricier kin, including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, which include Apples form of the Microsoft Office suite, and in addition interactive media applications including GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto (the recent to be supplanted sooner or later by the new Photographs application).
One of the profits of having an adaptable framework like the Macintosh Smaller than usual is that you can attach it to any showcase you have lounging around, and youre not bolted into the included screens incorporated with the iMac desktops. We attempted an Apple Silver screen Showcase through smaller than usual DisplayPort, and a 4K 28-inch screen from Monoprice, by means of HDMI.
Through the Presentation segment of the Settings menu, you can permit OS X to scale the desktop perspective to look great on your screen, regardless of its determination (or how it looks best as indicated by Apple), or you can choose your determination, and we set the Macintosh Smaller than usual to run at full 3,840x2,160 on our 4K showcase. We had the capacity watch a streaming 4K feature at full determination like this, albeit general execution felt rough. At 4K, the desktop can likewise watch extremely zoomed out. In case youre searching for a genuine 4K experience, youll have to spend more.
Associations, arrangement and execution
In exchange for purchasing a desktop over a Portable computer, have a privilege to expect liberal choice of ports and associations, even on little box like this. The Macintosh Small scales back board is stacked with associations, including four USB ports, and three feature yields (one is HDMI, the other two are imparted Thunderbolt/smaller than usual DisplayPort jacks), in addition to Ethernet, which is awesome in case youre going to set this up as a streaming home theater PC.
The base model Macintosh Small inspected here incorporates a 1.4GHz double center Intel Center i5 CPU from Intels fourth era of those chips, at times alluded to by the codename Haswell. New CPUs, fifth-gen models with the codename Broadwell, are beginning to pop up, yet its obscure if or when theyll go to the Macintosh Small scale or different Macintoshes.
The slightest lavish Macintosh Small scale likewise incorporates 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard commute, both specs that eventual considered on the low end as a rule, however are tolerable for a $500 PC. As an update - and not at all like past Macintosh Small scale models - post-retail updating is basically outlandish on the 2014 Smaller than expected, as the RAM is really welded into the motherboard and the hard commute is profoundly covered inside.
The Macintosh Smaller than usual performed intensely with the two other little desktops in the same value range we tried as of late, the Alienware Alpha and the HP Structure Small scale, exchanging ahead of all comers between them in multitasking and single-application tests, yet not blowing one another out of the water. Both the Alienware and HP models have Center i3 processors, yet offer different additional items, for example, the custom illustrations card in the Alpha (which prompted a greatly improved gaming edge rate score) and the bigger 1TB hard commute in the Structure Small scale. Note that our Structure Small was a $479 design with a redesigned CPU and hard commute, as opposed to the $319 base model, making at a closer cost to-spec correlation.
The Macintosh Smaller than normal additionally performed generally keeping pace with both the current 13-inch MacBook Air and the 21.5-inch entrance level iMac holding nothing back one desktop. That is on account of every one of the three of those Macintoshes are manufactured around comparable segments, in spite of the fact that the iMac has double the RAM and the MacBook has a speedier strong state hard commute. That implies the Macintosh Scaled down is about as compelling as Mac PCs that cost twice as much.
In reasonable terms, essential Photoshop and page building worked easily, as did office and profit applications. We stacked up Rationale Ace, Apples top of the line proficient music creation suite, and were capable go through a few demos, yet remember that the product plugins that are at the heart of that program are exceptionally CPU subordinate, and youll inevitably hit a block divider on the off chance that you stack an excess of together.
Gaming is about in the same class as it is on a current MacBook Air, which is to say, not exceptionally. Tomb Looter, a late amusement with a well-done Macintosh rendition, ran at just 13.2 casings every second at 1,920x1,080 determination and medium subtle element settings. Updated Macintosh Scaled down arrangements use Intel Iris illustrations, which are just possibly better we would say, yet that could help a bit. Making for an intriguing examination is the Alienware Alpha, a comparably estimated little desktop from Dell that consolidates a Center i3 CPU and custom Nvidia illustrations card for extraordinary gaming execution (if very little else of note) for $499.
