Apples iWatch Said to Arrive in October 2014 with Wireless Charging

Sixth-generation iPod nano with watch face

According to Chinese site C Technology [Google Translate, via GForGames], Apple is planning to release its long-rumored iWatch alongside the next iPhone in October 2014, with the company having tested two iWatch prototypes. However, the report also states that Apple has not decided on the final screen size of the device, with the prototype units being powered by a 100 mAh battery. The iWatch is also said to include wireless charging capabilities which will allow the device to charge from up to a meter away.

The report questions the reported inclusion of a 100 mAh battery, noting that it seems far too small to allow for significant battery life. Samsungs Galaxy Gear watch contains a 315 mAh battery and has received criticism over poor battery life.

Battery life has previously been reported as being an issue for Apple, with iWatch prototypes lasting only 1-2 days on a charge and the company hoping to find ways to extend that to 4-5 days. C Technology notes that wireless charging would be one way to reduce the burden of frequent charges, but it is unclear exactly how it would be implemented by Apple. A 100 mAh battery in the iWatch would roughly match the 105 mAh battery seen in the sixth-generation iPod nano that was designed in part to be able to be used as a watch.

In contrast, a report last month from Digitimes stated that the iWatch would be released in Q2 2014, with component makers having started pilot production for the device. The report also stated that low part yields have pushed back mass production of the device from an internal target date of Q1 2014 to Q2 2014, with Apple suppliers Quanta, Inventec, and Foxconn said to be competing for iWatch production orders.

iWatch reports have surfaced throughout the past few months, with Apple rumored to be releasing both 1.7 and 1.3-inch display sizes of the watch for men and women. NPD DisplaySearch analyst Paul Gagnon also noted that Apple appears to have put its major television product plans on hold for the time being in order to focus on wearables such as the iWatch.

C Technologys rumor track record is mixed, with the site being a frequent source of accurate iPhone 5s and 5c photo leaks leading up to the launch of those devices but also sharing several inaccurate pictures claimed to be of iPads in gold and/or with Touch ID prior to the introduction of the new tablets.

Apples Plans to Enhance Touch ID with Trackpad Capabilities and Display Integration Revealed

Late last week, we highlighted a pair of Apple patent applications offering details on the companys implementation of its "Touch ID" fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5s.

The highly technical patent applications showed how the system works and revealed that Apple first moved to protect the ideas with the filing of several provisional patent applications in May 2012.

A third Touch ID-related patent application filed by Apple also quietly surfaced last week (via Unwired View) but has flown under the radar until now because it appears to have published on the World Intellectual Property Organizations database but not the U.S. Patent and Trademark Offices database.

This third patent application is the most revealing yet with regard to Touch ID, showing how Apple has envisioned expanding the feature to incorporate trackpad functionalities, tracking movements of a users finger or thumb over the sensor to navigate through user interfaces on the devices screen. In one example, Apple shows how a user moving his or her finger right to left across the Touch ID home button could pan a map, with a subsequent upward movement across the home button triggering activation of a multitasking interface.

Panning a map by moving finger right to left over Touch ID home button

Other examples show how users could take advantage of "revolving" or "twisting" motions of their fingerprints on the Touch ID home button to initiate actions. Adding the ability to recognize presses of various durations for the Touch ID home button and even sensors for detecting how hard the button is being pressed could offer even more powerful user interface navigation capabilities right from the home button.

Moving beyond the home button, Apple addresses the possibility of integrating Touch ID right into a devices display, allowing any area of the screen to be dynamically designated as a sensing region for the users fingerprint. In one example, the area of a display representing the devices email app could require a valid fingerprint touching the icon in order for authorization to be granted.

Authorizing Mail app with Touch ID sensing integrated into device display

Overall, Apples patent application is a massive 610-page document incorporating 464 claims covering a wide range of applications for Touch ID in the future. Beyond the examples highlighted here, the application covers a number of other areas including:

- Enhanced touch typing recognition through sensing which fingers are touching the keys
- Using pressure and movement sensing to turn the home button into a simple game controller
- Using revolving "scroll wheel" motions on the home button to navigate through multitasking app listings
- Using fingerprint verification to enforce parental controls on age-rated media content, restrict maximum device volume, or automatically increase font sizes for children, seniors, or visually-impaired users
- Autofilling web forms or loading personalized web pages based on fingerprint identification
- Supporting multi-user profiles including authorized and guest profiles through fingerprint authorization
- Authorizing location "check-ins", mobile payment information, or photo/document author tagging based on fingerprint identification
- Supporting simultaneous multi-user configurations by allowing users to define separate areas of a devices screen for drawings, notes, or other content based on fingerprint recognition

Apples patent application was filed on May 20, 2013, but cites as priority several provisional patent applications dated as far back as May 2012.

Photos taken with dual camera Huawei Honor 6 Plus

Photos

Huawei enters a new dimension in the field of photography with his impending Huawei Honor 6 Plus. The model, which will be officially unveiled in a couple of weeks, stand out above the rest of the news of the brand by incorporating a dual camera, much like what offers the HTC One M8 . However, leakage offer us a preview of what will offer photographic services phablet through a series of photos with Bokeh effect made with said chamber.

After presenting the Huawei Honor 6, the Chinese brand intends to continue increasing family of Huawei Honor devices in Europe. In fact, next December 16 is fixed an event that will release the rumored Huawei Honor 6 Plus a phablet version 5.5-inch screen, a processor  Octacore Kirim 925 and 3 GB of RAM. However, the distinguishing feature of this model is the camera for its peculiar hardware.

Concept dual camera, a technique that begins to awaken interest

And the Huawei Honor 6 Plus will at the rear of the housing with a dual chamber. This is the same concept as applied in the HTC One M8, but this time the arrangement of the sensors and lenses have different placement. Thus we prove the passage of model facilities regulator TENAA, where a series of images offered us a preview of dual camera equipment.

Photos

 The first sample photos

Now, for lack of a couple of weeks to be officially presented, have leaked several pictures made with dual camera mentioned Huawei Honor 6 Plus. Although not a surprise, the importance of snapshots is that the same is shown in detail a preview of what’s new dual camera Huawei Honor 6 Plus will. Graphic examples make room for little doubt since shows that the dual sensor is vital to blur and sharpen tool objects in pictures.

Photos

 Focus and Blur Bokeh techniques

Both the first and the second picture we can see how under one shot you can select the focus of the image creating a bokeh effect. This is the focus of an object at close range and the background blur, causing a highlighting effect on the protagonist element of the picture. However, it is also possible to apply the opposite effect, in this case the landscape approach to overshadow, in blurred vision, snowmobiling. Similarly the other two leaked photos show the result of a fixed focus where a sharp image is captured in any part of the picture.

Photos

It will not be until December 16 when we know all the specifications of dual chamber included in the Huawei Honor 6 Plus. Perhaps then it is when we are better able to determine further how Huawei improve imaging performance in their new phablet.

Sony Launches Walkman with High Resolution Audio at CES 2015

Sony is bringing back the Walkman, with a new model of the music player pioneer that comes with high-resolution playback and Bluetooth-connected headphones.

The new Walkman, targeting audiophiles and set to cost about $US1200 in the United States ($1485), is a high-end version of a model Sony released in 2013 after retiring the classic cassette player in 2010. The first-generation, clunky-looking Walkman went on sale in July 1979, redefining the way people listened to music.

The NW-ZX2 Walkman was among products unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday (Australia time), and will be available globally alongside new high-end headphones in the first quarter of this year. Local pricing is yet to be announced.

Sony also presented an ultra high-definition action camera that uses the 4K video format its trying to push, a challenge to GoPro in the market for filming extreme sports.

Chief Executive Office Kazuo Hirai led the presentation at CES as Tokyo-based Sony seeks to move past the embarrassing hacking on its Hollywood studio, an attack Hirai described as "vicious and malicious."

All of Sonys web-connected TVs will run this year on Googles Android platform with Sony planning models from 43 inches to 75 inches (1.9 metres). The X900C TV is just 0.2 inches deep at its thinnest point, the company said.

Sony unveils 1 200 Android powered Walkman player with hi res audio

Sony’s once massive Walkman brand is still going, however the glory days are long gone. I’m not sure how much market there is for music players in general, Walkman or otherwise, but I can guess the market size for a $1,200.
It’s as high-quality as a pocketable player gets – it supports FLAC/ALAC (up to 96kHz/24-bit) and Bluetooth with SBC/LDAC hi-fidelity codec. Dual-band Wi-Fi is also available for DLNA playback.

The player packs a massive 128GB – or not so massive considering a single FLAC album is in the hundreds of megabytes, a full gigabyte even. There’s a microSD card slot if you run out, but at an ultrabook price we were hoping for a bit more room out of the box.
Anyway, the Sony Walkman – officially NW-ZX2 – runs Android on a 4″ screen. The screen is not up to up to par with the audio capabilities. Not that the screen is a crucial part of a music player, but something better than 480 x 854px would have been appreciated.
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is also not our top pick. With the whole “will they, won’t they” upgrade situation on phones, I don’t even want to think what it’s like to wait for a music player to be updated.
Did I mention that for $1,200 you don’t get an impressive pair of headphones? Or any headphones? Headphones are essential, otherwise the difference between FLAC and MP3 is imaginary. Just saying that you have to add several hundred dollars more if you want this Walkman player.
At least it gets decent battery life – 60 hours. If you listen to 128Kbps MP3s. If you want to use the player as intended and listen to FLAC, you get about half the battery life, 33 hours.
If you want a smaller device at a quarter of the price than this seems like an option – $300 for 64GB and an empty microSD card slot. Or if you insist on Android, you can get the Harman/Kardon HTC One (M8)that also supports 96kHz/24-bit FLAC audio. There’s a phone with a good screen and such in there too, besides the audio playback.

Dell We can do things with Android we can’t with Windows

The mobile OS race is usually a case of iOS vs Android, but with some manufacturers still backing Microsoft there is a third challenger to the tablet crown, at least for now.

Despite the likes of the Surface Pro 3 and Nokia Lumia 2520, Windows is on the wane in the tablet space.

Android

Dell, a former giant of the PC market, has a couple tablets running Microsoft’s finest OS, but says Android offers a broader range of options.

The company has claimed there are things it can do with Android which just aren’t possible with Windows.

“We can do things with Android at the moment that we can’t do with Windows,” Adam Griffin, Dell’s Global Senior Tablet Product Manager said.

Although singing the praises of the Google OS, Griffin has revealed Dell has no plans on turning its back on Windows just yet.
